Available materials

Stainless Steel 304

Stainless steel 304/304L | 1.4301/1.4307 | X5CrNi18-10/X2CrNi18-9

304L is the workhorse austenitic: strong, formable, weldable, and resistant to most of what a part meets indoors or out.

MetalCorrosion resistantNon-magnetic
Stainless Steel 316

Stainless steel 316/316L | 1.4401/1.4404 | X5CrNiMo17-12-2/X2CrNiMo17-12-2

316L adds molybdenum to the 304 recipe, which is what buys resistance to chlorides — salt water, and most process chemistry.

MetalCorrosion resistantNon-magnetic
Stainless Steel 303

Stainless steel 303 | 1.4305 | X8CrNiS18-9

303 has sulphur added so it cuts and chips freely, at some cost to corrosion resistance. Worth it on high-volume turned work.

MetalCorrosion resistant
Stainless Steel 17-4

Stainless Steel 17-4 PH | 1.4542 | X5CrNiCuNb16-4 - Annealed state

17-4 PH is machined soft and then heat-treated to as much as 44 HRC, so you get hardness without giving up corrosion resistance.

MetalCorrosion resistant
Stainless Steel 416

Stainless steel 416 | 1.4005 | X12CrS13

Stainless steel 416 is magnetic and has a high machinability.

Metal
Stainless Steel 2205

Stainless steel 2205 Duplex | 1.4462 | 2205 | X2CrNiMoN 22-5-3

2205 duplex mixes austenitic and ferritic structure, giving roughly double the yield strength of 304 and strong chloride resistance up to about 300°C.

MetalCorrosion resistant
Stainless Steel 420

Stainless steel 420 | 1.4028 | X30Cr13

420 is a martensitic grade that hardens further than any other stainless, which is why cutlery, moulds and wear parts use it.

Metal
Stainless Steel 440C

Stainless steel 440C | 1.4125 | X105CrMo17

Stainless steel 440C has improved toughness and corrosion resistance due to Carbon and Chromium content.

Metal
Stainless Steel 430

Stainless steel 430 | 1.4016 | X6Cr17

Stainless steel 430 is magnetic and corrosion resistant.

Metal
Stainless Steel 301

Stainless steel 301 | 1.4310 | X10CrNi18-8

Stainless steel 301 is corrosion resistant similar to Stainless steel 304.

Metal
Stainless Steel 15-5

Stainless steel 15-5 | 1.4545 | X5CrNiCu15-5

15-5 PH is 17-4 with the ferrite removed — tougher, more consistent across the grain direction, and the better pick for thick or highly stressed sections.

Custom Stainless steel parts

What makes steel stainless is chromium — at roughly 11% and above, it forms a self-repairing oxide film on the surface. Scratch the part and the film reforms, which is why stainless resists rust in a way a coated carbon steel never does once the coating is breached.

Stainless turns up wherever a part has to survive its environment rather than be protected from it: energy, medical, food and agricultural equipment, industrial automation and marine fittings.

Stainless steel machine shops

Stainless is harder on tooling than aluminium and slower to cut, so it goes to partners who run it regularly and have the feeds, speeds and rigidity to hold tolerance in it. That matching is done by an engineer when the drawing arrives.

Stainless steel CNC machining services

We machine the stainless grades buyers actually specify — the 300-series austenitics, the free-machining 303, the precipitation-hardening 17-4 and 15-5, and 2205 duplex where the environment is severe. Stainless is chosen for strength that survives corrosion, heat or sterilisation.
